Junior Golf Saturday, After School and Summer Classes Now Forming! Junior Golf TipGood Alignment to Your Target: Good alignment helps you develop a good swing. You want to always make sure that the golf ball and the face of the golf club are aimed to your target. Each time you hit a ball, have a target picked out. If you are on the range switch targets often during your practice session. Before you approach the ball and hit it, stand behind the ball directly in line with your target. Try to imagine a really good shot flying through the air and landing on your target. Try to pick out something on the ground that is on the same line as your target like a divot or different colored patch of grass that is not more than 3 feet in front of your ball. When you approach the ball make sure that the face of your club is aimed over the spot that you just picked out. To check your alignment, sometimes ask a fellow golfer or your parent to stand behind you and see if you are aimed at your intended target. To help with your alignment when you practice, lay a club down pointing at your target but a few inches beyond the ball where you won't hit it. Use the club on the ground to help you line up each shot. When standing over the ball, look at your target and notice what it looks and feels like when you are aimed properly. Focus on your target instead of thinking how you should swing the club. When you are on the golf course, use the same techniques that you have developed in your practice. Visualize a great shot, pick an intermediate target to help you line up, focus on your target, and swing freely. And remember the most important part of golf is to enjoy the challenge of every shot.
