Red Canyon Golf Instruction - Junior Golf Tips

Chipping, Pitching and Putting:

Depending on your age, strength and skill level, you might not be able to hit it as far as some adult golfers. But you can still score by working on your chipping, pitching, and putting.

Maybe you can hit the long ball, but still would like to shoot lower scores. In both cases, improving your short game is the answer.

Here is the best way to improve your shots on and around the green:

Practice using only one or two golf balls and throw the balls somewhere near the practice chipping green. Try to take one chip shot from where each ball lands, even if it is in a bad lie. Then try to putt the ball into the hole with two putts if you are a beginner or one putt if you are a more advanced player.

"Getting up and down" means that you take only one putt to hole the ball after your chip shot. Experiment with your chipping and try to use all of the clubs in your bag to create different shots. See if you can hit the ball both high and low, long and short. That's what Phil Mickelson, Tiger and Annika all did as junior golfers and one of the reasons their short games are so good to this day. Be creative, practice and make it fun!
